AFC Leopards
head coach Fred Ambani has expressed satisfaction after his side secured a
hard-fought 2-1 victory over Posta Rangers in a league clash at Nyayo National
Stadium on Saturday.
The win keeps
the 12-time league champions firmly in the title race. Leopards now sit second
on 40 points, six behind leaders Gor Mahia.
“Thanks a lot
and we thank God for the victory. We scored through a set-piece, and I want to
congratulate the boys for executing what we have been working on in training,”
Ambani said.
“The three
points have not been won easily, but seeing the young players coming into the
squad and showing what they are made of makes me a happy coach.”
Ambani hinted at
possible changes in the squad, ahead of their next fixture, with Leopards set to visit KCB FC
at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani on Thursday.
“We might make
some changes or maintain the squad. We will sit down in training and analyse
who best suits where, considering the next game is coming very fast. We might
probably want some fresh legs,” he added.
Meanwhile, Posta
Rangers head coach Collins Omondi faulted his players for what he termed as “
laxity”, particularly in defending the decisive set-piece that saw Leopards
captain Kayci Odhiambo score.
“We started the game on a low note, giving them space and failing to react quickly, which gifted them their second goal through Kayci’s set-piece. The question is, where were we when they were planning for the set-piece? They took time, and you could hear Kayci asking for the ball from the corner taker, yet our boys did not pounce to deal with the danger,” Omondi said.
