Coach Kimani glad to have Leopards faith

AFC Leopards head coach Antony Modo Kimani is delighted to have the trust of Kenyan Premier League club’s hierarchy to deliver success.

Kimani was promoted to head coach last year in December following the resignation of Rwandese Andre Casa Mbungo and enjoyed an impressive run-in before the league was halted in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“First of all we the technical bench have already sat down with our officials and they have assured us of their support and trust in us .

Secondly we must admit that the assignment ahead will not be a walk in the park but an enormous one that will require us to put our heads together, to strategize as a team both the coaching fraternity, players and even our fans so as to bring success to this club,” Kimani said.

The former Ingwe and Harambee Stars captain also expressed gratitude to Kenyan clubs who have started trusting youthful and local based coaches at the expense of foreign tacticians.

“I must say it is something to be proud of to see that local tacticians have started getting the trust from our clubs and I can assure you that we have a lot of good coaches whom when given the chance they will impress.

“I’m very proud of Fred Ambani for landing the appointment of Wazito FC as head coach and that speaks volume to us local and young tacticians,” the former Mathare player said.

Leopards are set to meet this week to assess the current squad and discuss its transfer activity as they look to turn the team into a title challenger.

“We have not been able to meet so as to decide on which player to sign and who should be allowed to move on. However, we are expecting to meet our officials this week so as to put the names on the table and sieve them before deciding which arsenals are we going to employ to our youthful side,” Kimani underscored.

AFC leopards aim to lift the league title next season when football resumes since it’s suspension in March thanks to the outbreak of novel coronavirus pandemic in the world.

The suspension was followed by declaration of Gor Mahia as 2019-2020 league champions an announcement made by FKF chief Nick Mwendwa.
