Compel FC will be looking to bounce back from cup disappointment when they take on Shalimar in a Division One Zone D fixture set for Naivasha, Nakuru County this weekend.
The encounter presents an opportunity for coach George Mutimba’s charges to end the first leg of the season on a high note after their recent elimination from the FKF Cup at the hands of Kenya Premier League side KCB.
Despite the setback, Compel have enjoyed a strong league campaign and currently sit second on the table with 28 points from 14 matches.
Speaking to Citizen Digital ahead of the clash, head coach George Mutimba has emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, warning against underrating their opponents.
“We cannot underrate them despite the fact that they are placed lower in the rankings. We are in this league together and our focus shifts to finishing the first leg strong after exiting the cup competition,” Mutimba stated.
Shalimar are currently second from the bottom with nine points after 14 matches and will be fighting to climb out of the relegation zone. Their position, however, does not diminish the threat they pose, especially playing with the desperation of a side seeking crucial points.
For Compel, the stakes are high. They trail league leaders Mfalme by just two points, meaning a victory could significantly boost their title ambitions depending on other results.
Mutimba expressed satisfaction with his team’s progress compared to last season, when they concluded the first leg in fourth place.
“We have improved from where we were last season, and we have also brought in new signings to strengthen the squad as we prepare for the second leg,” he added.
The new additions are expected to add depth and quality to the squad as Compel push for promotion to the National Super League next season.
With only two points separating them from the summit, Compel FC know that maximum points in Naivasha could keep their promotion dream firmly on track, while Shalimar will be battling to revive their campaign.
