Kibera Soccer Women head coach David Vijago is confident his side will defeat Vihiga Queens and clinch the FKF Women’s Cup in the final set for Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru County.
Kibera booked their place in the final after stunning
current FKF Women’s Premier League champions Kenya Police Bullets 2-0 on Sunday
at Dandora Stadium. Their final opponents, Vihiga Queens, secured a hard-fought
2-1 win over Bungoma Queens at the Mumias Complex in the other semifinal.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Vijago expressed confidence in
his team’s readiness for the final and urged fans to show up in large numbers
to support them.
“Our semifinal was tough, but we managed to win and advance
to the final. We’re getting back to training today to prepare, and I’m
confident we will emerge victorious and make history,” said Vijago.
“In our last match, we started slowly, which is something
I’ll be working to fix. I’m calling on our fans to turn out in large numbers
and support us—I promise we won’t let them down.”
This year’s cup will see new champions crowned after
three-time winners Ulinzi Starlets were knocked out in the quarterfinals
following a 4-3 penalty shootout loss to Kibera.
There will be no third-place playoff, meaning Bungoma Queens
will not face Kenya Police Bullets, the current league champions.
This marks the second consecutive year the Bullets have
exited the tournament at the semifinal stage. Last year, they were eliminated
by Ulinzi Starlets on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Kibera, who lost last year’s final 2-1 to Ulinzi Starlets at
Police Sacco Stadium, will be hoping to go one better this time and lift their
first-ever FKF Women’s Cup title.
