Dala Sevens: Homeboyz, Oilers face off in cup final

Menengai Oilers have a chance to make up for their Driftwood Sevens heartache after they held their nerves to overcome KCB RFC 14-12 in a tough and charged semifinal, and will face Homeboyz in the last battle.

Oilers raced to a 7-0 lead with Mark Kwemoi slicing through the KCB defence and adding the extras.

Timothy Okwemba however slowed down Oilers' momentum after he was yellow carded  for a rough challenge leaving his side with six men but the bankers fought tooth and nail, Isaac Njoroge going under the whitewash at the far left cutting the deficit to 7-5.

However mistakes in offloading saw KCB pounce, Bob Muhati using his huge frame to add a converted try, handing KCB a 12-7 at halftime.

After the breather Oilers wheeled their machine, Dennis Abukuse giving his side another try and starman Kwemoi converted as Oilers swung to a 14-12 lead and gallantly held on to win and nail a final slot.

Homeboyz on the other hand had to be tight at the back to dispatch Mwamba 14-10 in another bitterly fought semis.

Mwamba drew the first blood through Ronnie Omondi, running through Homeboyz defence but Elvis Namusasi failed to add the extras.

Michael Nyakundi then raced clear to touch down between the posts and Armon Wamalwa had the simplest of tasks to stretch it  to 7-5 in favour of Homeboyz at the break.

Tom Maina added another for Homeboyz shortly after the breather and kickspecialist Wamalwa took the due diligence, converting from a tight angle for a 14-5 lead.

Close as it was,  Mike Okello wriggled his way to dive, cutting the deficit for Mwamba, taking their tally to 10, the conversion unsuccessful as they crashed out.
