De Gea tried to lure me to Manchester United – Bayern midfielder

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara has revealed that Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea tried to convince him to join Old Trafford in 2013.

The German midfielder said that De Gea made it known that he wanted him to join Manchester United by writing a message on his match ball after their 2-1 win against Italy in the European Champions final, according to Daily Mail.

“De Gea wanted me to join Manchester United so he wrote a message on the match ball after we beat Italy 2-1 in the European Championship under 21 final in 2013.”

The message, which read “See you in Manchester”, prompted wide speculations regarding the move for the 24-year-old, though no official move was made by the then Manchester United manager David Moyes.

At the time, Alcantara was on the verge of moving from Barcelona to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich to join his former coach Pep Guardiola.

Alcantara heaped praise on the Spanish goalkeeper saying he is the best in the world.
