Dogo delighted as Djurgardens move nears

Harambee Starlets star striker Mwanahalima ‘Dogo’ Adam is on the verge of joining Swedish top flight side Djurgardens IF DFF.

The player is expected to travel to Stockholm this week having earlier experienced challenges on acquiring a visa.

Dogo is among four Starlets players who have recently secured deals with different clubs in Europe alongside Vivan Corazone (Atletico Ouriense, Portugal) and Annedy Kundu and Ruth Ingotsi who both signed a three-year deal each with Lakatamia Football Club which features in the Cypriot top flight league.

In an exclusive interview with Citizen Digital, Dogo could not hide her delight upon realising her dream to play overseas.

“I have been longing to play in Europe since I was young. However, it has not come as a surprise to me because I know I am a great player. I have been waiting for my chance and now God has granted me the opportunity,” she said.

Although she could not reveal the details of the deal, she hinted that it is something good that will motivate her.

The St John’s Kaloleni alumnus revealed that she was not aware the Swedish scouts were in the country to assess her but nevertheless was happy to have impressed them.

“I wasn’t aware if they (scouts) were around. They had seen some video clips of my foot works, dribbles and goals which made them travel to Kenya and persuade me to play for them. I am expected in Stockholm by January 24 and thus I hope everything will go as planned,” added Dogo.

The former Thika Queens star started shining during her days in secondary school leading her to the national team where she has cemented herself as one of the most prolific strikers in the land.

She also won the 2016 Sports Personality of the Year Award (SOYA) in the most promising girl category.

Her former coach at St John’s Kaloleni, Joseph Oyoo while congratulating her exuded confidence that the diminutive player she will shine in Sweden.

“I have known Mwanahalima since she joined our school, she is one of the talented girls in football that I have ever met. I have no doubt she will succeed because she is very disciplined both in and out of the pitch. I wish her all the best,” said Oyoo.

The move is a massive boost for Starlets in gaining international exposure as the four players moving abroad joins Esse Mbeyu Akida who plies her trade with FC Ramat HaSharon in Israel as well as winger Mary Kinuthia and striker Christine Nafula both based in Sweden.
