EACDT down Big Fruit, BATUK A beaten again at Rhino Cup
EACDT kicked off Day Two of the Last Male Standing Rhino Cup
in superb fashion as they claimed a five wicket win over the Big Fruit
Foundation.
Nicholas Oluoch and Newton Oloo impressed with the bat as
they each scored twenty five runs for an EACDT outfit who have looked like a
force to reckon with so far.
Debutants BFF suffered yet another loss as they struggled to
get in a decent partnership going. It has proved to be a tough tournament for
the new outfit as their lack of experience saw them lose vital wickets for
little returns.
EACDT coach, Paul Anjere expressed his delight at his side's
win praising his batsmen for a job well
done. "The batting unit has been really good so far. We hope they keep up
the same momentum if we should stand any chance of winning this year."
It was business as usual for Meru Cricket Club as they
condemned BATUK A to yet another loss. Hiran Ajay Ravji was the star with the
bat as he top scored with twenty seven runs to help the Meru based outfit to a
twenty one run win as they showed why they deserve the tag of tournament
favourites.
Obuya Cricket Academy made light work of Big Fruit Foundation
as they only needed seven overs to chase down a target on seventy four. George
Owino was the star of the show, hitting three boundaries and one massive six as
the defending champions notched another win under their belts.
The second day of the Last Male Standing Rhino Cup was a
spectacular and colourful affair as fans showed up in large numbers at the Ol
Pejeta Conservancy to watch some of the country's best cricketing talent on
show.
Tournament organizer Rob Stevenson promised more
scintillating displays as the tournament gears up for the knock out phase.
"Today has seen some thrilling remainders of the pool
games before the knock out matches start on Sunday. Meru Cricket Club and Obuya
Cricket Academy look like the teams to beat."
Sunday will see the tournament reach its peak as the four
best sides slag it out for a chance to play in the final later on during the
day. Obuya Cricket Academy will square off against Meru Cricket Club in the
first semi final in what will be a repeat of last year’s final. It is expected
to be a fiery affair as both teams came into the tournament as firm favourites.
In the other semi final, EACDT will be hoping their batsmen
guide them into the final when they come up against Mario Tours. Everything
indicates at an EACDT win but Mario Tours will be looking to play the part of
the villain and spoil the EACDT party.
Before that however, the two teams that dropped from the main
cup will compete for the Wooden Spoon. BATUK A who have had a tournament to
forget so far will look to salvage some pride against the Big Fruit Foundation.
