EACDT win the 2022 Last Male Standing Rhino Cup

EACDT win the 2022 Last Male Standing Rhino Cup

EACDT beat Meru Cricket Club to win this year’s Last Male Standing Rhino Cup in what was one of the most dominant finals display in the history of the tournament.

In an electric and charged atmosphere at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, EACDT finally rid themselves of the underachievers tag, thumping Meru Cricket Club by seven wickets to claim the top prize.

Martin Okoth was the star of the show with twenty six runs which included three boundaries and one six in ten balls, to steer his side to a more than deserved win. EACDT’s batting unit had been a force to reckon with the entire tournament and once again made the difference, this time on the grandest stage of them all. Okoth’s brilliant knock earned him the Player of The Match award, but in reality, it could have gone to any of the EACDT batsmen. Nicholas Oluoch and Dominic Wesonga scored forty three runs between them as they put on a batting masterclass, frustrating the Meru bowlers to condemn the last year’s losing finalists to yet anotherdisappointing final loss.

Unlike their nail biting defeat at the hands of Obuya Cricket Academy in 2021, this time they were simply outbowled, outbatted and outclassed to once again stumble on the last hurdle. The only consolation this time round is that they lost to side that was better than them in every department.

Earlier in the day, they had exacted revenge on Obuya Cricket Academy in the semi-final to give themselves a chance of righting the wrongs of 2021. However against EACDT, they came face to face with a juggernaut that just could not be stopped.

EACDT coach Paul Anjere, was ecstatic at his side’s win lavishing praise on his players and in particular his batsmen. “All this has been made possible by the support we have received and the hard work the players put in during training. The hours we have put in with our batsmen have finally paid off.”

This edition of the Last Male Standing Rhino Cup delivered much more than it promised with quality displays of cricket all round. The standard of cricket on the field, the competition and camaraderie between teams coupled with the perfect backdrop of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy served up a tournament for the ages.

In the Sudan Smash, the less professional division of the tournament, Ndovu Cement beat last year’s winners FYCEK to take home the trophy and while Sankhesh Dedhia and his Mario Tours side took home the Sudan Memorial Cup for being the biggest donating team at the tournament.
