East Africa School Games: St. Antony Kitale coach Lugalia hails crucial win over Musingu

St. Antony Kitale hockey head coach Kevin Lugalia has described their 2–1 win over arch-rivals Musingu High School in the ongoing East Africa Secondary School Games as a huge motivation and proof that his side is on the right track.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Lugalia said the victory has lifted the team’s morale and boosted their belief in reclaiming the title they last won in 2019.

“That was a big win for us, knowing they had beaten us twice in the national finals. We prepared well, the players showed hunger and determination, and we are happy with the result,” said Lugalia.

Musingu has beaten St. Antony in the last two national finals, but the coach believes his players have now matured and learned how to handle high-intensity matches on big stages.

“The team has grown over the past two years. Even when we’ve lost crucial matches, they have never given up. If we keep this spirit, I believe we stand a real chance of lifting the title,” he added.

The former champions will next face St. Charles Lwanga, and Lugalia stressed the need to sharpen their attack to avoid late-game pressure.

“In such competitions, when you get the chance to kill off a game, you must take it immediately. Doing so relieves pressure and eliminates the panic of conceding a last-minute goal. Our attack is an area we must keep improving,” the tactician said.
