Chepsaita Cross Country patron Faruk Kibet has urged participants and spectators attending the third edition of the race, scheduled for December 6, to uphold high standards of discipline as the event continues to grow into a major platform for community development.

Speaking during an event update, Kibet emphasised that the cross-country meet—now attracting both local and international interest—serves not only as an athletics showcase but also as a driver of sports tourism, cultural exchange, and economic growth.

“It is going to be a great event. We expect many local and international fans to grace the occasion. I urge everyone planning to attend to maintain discipline because we want to grow our local and national economy through sports tourism,” said Kibet.

A key focus of the Chepsaita Cross Country has been supporting education through scholarships funded by proceeds from the race.

Kibet revealed that the organizers have already disbursed KSh 1 million to 22 schools within the community, with 100 students each receiving KSh 10,000 to support their academic needs.

“The aim of this race is education. It is always good to see children benefit and complete their studies through an initiative that adds value to the economy,” he added.

Past editions of the race have also contributed to bursaries and school development programs, strengthening the event’s reputation as a community-driven athletics competition with tangible social impact.

Kibet expressed confidence in the preparedness of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Athletics Kenya (AK), commending their efforts in ensuring the upcoming edition aligns with World Athletics requirements.

“I am impressed with what I have seen so far. The LOC and AK have done a great job to make sure we have a world-class event, and I believe it will be successful,” he said.

The Chepsaita Cross Country continues to position itself as both a sporting highlight and a lifeline for learners in the region, with organisers reiterating their commitment to expanding scholarship support as the event grows.
