Eliud Kipchoge to have street named after him in Eldoret town
Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno says plans are underway to hand Eliud Kipchoge a befitting welcome when he returns home after his heroics in Austria, Vienna on Saturday.
Kipchoge made history Saturday morning becoming the first human to run a marathon race in less than two hours when he ran 1:59:40 at the INEOS challenge in Vienna, Austria.
Chemno who was among a multitude of spectators who turned up to follow the race proceedings along the Nairobi-Uganda road said the county will dedicate a street in honour of Kipchoge in the county’s capital Eldoret town.
“We will of course name a street in honour of (Eliud) Kipchoge because he has brought a lot of joy to our county,” Chemno told Citizen Digital.
On the same breath, Chemno urged the national government to finalise the construction works of the incomplete Kipchoge Keino stadium.
“We are currently working on the 64 Stadium and would like to urge the national government to expedite the works on Kipchoge Keino Stadium,”said Chemno
