Harambee Stars
midfielder Eric Johana Omondi is officially on the market after parting ways
with Saudi First Division outfit Al-Zulfi FC following the expiry of his
contract on January 24, 2026.
The club confirmed the
separation in a brief statement on their platforms, simply posting, “Thank you,
Eric Omondi,” bringing to an end his short but eventful stay in Saudi Arabia.
Omondi joined Al-Zulfi
in August 2025 from Romanian top-flight side UTA Arad in what was viewed as a
statement acquisition.
The Saudi club banked
on his vast international exposure to inject composure, leadership, and
creativity into their midfield as they navigated a demanding campaign.
During his five-month
spell at Al-Zulfi, the Kenyan international featured regularly, making
appearances across both league and cup competitions.
He played 15 matches
in total and found the back of the net twice. While his contract ran its
course, the club opted not to extend his stay, leaving Omondi to explore new
opportunities as a free agent.
The 30-year-old’s
departure adds another chapter to a career defined by movement across
continents and leagues.
Since leaving Mathare
United in 2016, Omondi has carved out a reputation as one of Kenya’s most
well-travelled midfielders.
His journey abroad
began in Sweden with Vasalunds IF in 2017, before spells at IF Brommapojkarna
and later Jönköpings Södra IF, where he continued to refine his game in the
competitive Scandinavian setup.
In 2022, Omondi took his
talents to Belgium with Waasland-Beveren before making a high-profile switch to
Asia, signing for Thai giants Muangthong United for the 2022–2023 season.
That move opened the
door to Romanian football, with UTA Arad securing his services for two consecutive
seasons between 2023 and 2025.
Now unattached,
Omondi’s experience across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East places him in an
attractive position for clubs seeking a composed, versatile midfielder.
For Harambee Stars,
his availability could also prove timely as the national team balances
continuity with fresh energy.
