Esports: Breakthrough as EAFC champion Kappa seals Morocco move

Kenya’s esports scene has received a major boost after national EAFC champion Harry Kappa secured a professional move to Morocco, marking a historic first for the country’s growing gaming industry.

The 20-year-old Thika-born star has signed with Renaissance Club Athletic Zemamra, who compete in Morocco’s elite eBotola League, currently the only fully professional esports league on the continent. His transfer makes him the first Kenyan player to land a professional esports contract abroad.

For Kappa, the deal is more than just a career step, it is a dream validated. Speaking to Citizen Digital, he expressed gratitude and belief that the opportunity reflects the power of hard work and faith.

"To me this is a dream come true not just for me, but also for Kenyan esports. It shows that with hard work, faith, and the right support, our talent can compete on the global stage.”

He also acknowledged the role played by his management agency and the national federation in helping unlock the move.

The stakes in Morocco will be high. The league’s top two players will qualify directly for the 2026 Esports World Cup in Riyadh, placing Kappa within touching distance of one of gaming’s biggest global showcases.

His journey has been building toward this moment. Over the past two years, he has represented Kenya in international tournaments across Saudi Arabia, Rwanda, and South Africa while featuring for sides such as eHub Gamers and Plug N Play Esports.

Kappa is set to depart for Casablanca ahead of the league’s February 26 kickoff, carrying both national pride and the hopes of Kenya’s esports future.
