Ex-international John Baraza tipped to take over at Mara

Former Kenyan international John Baraza is set to take over at National Super League side Mara Sugar FC weeks after parting ways with Division One club, Equity FC.

Baraza left Equity earlier this month and he is best remembered for leading the team to the FKF Cup semis last season before they went out on post-match penalties against AFC Leopards. Along the way, they hammered the then defending champions Bandari FC.

Mara have been without a head coach for the last two months. Steve Biko's dismissal left the team in the hands of assistant coach Godfrey Naibei and the club has now decided to replace Biko with the former Sofapaka FC head coach.

The soft-spoken tactician was present at the Awendo Green Stadium on Sunday when Mara stunned promotion hopefuls Shabana after coming from a goal down to beat the Glamour Boys 2-1.

A source intimated to Citizen Digital Baraza will be unveiled soon.

"Baraza is our new coach, everything has been agreed upon and he will take over with immediate effect. He was present during our game against Shabana but watched it from the stands to get a glimpse of the team, he will be assisted by Naibei who resumes his previous role," the source said.

Mara earned promotion to the National Super League at the end of last season after topping the FKF División One league.

The team is currently placed 12th in the National Super League log with 29 points after 26 rounds of league matches.
