Godfrey 'Solo' Oduor is the new Harambee Starlets head coach, Citizen Digital can exclusively report.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) deputy president Doris Petra confirmed that the former Nzoia FC boss will take charge of the team after the former coach Charles Okere left his role.

Oduor is currently an assistant coach at FKF Premier League side KCB.

“We have held some talks with him and decided to give him chance to steer our national women’s team.

“Okere wanted to leave earlier but we had we requested to stay on as we sought for a long term coach and when we resumed office in November last year he decided to leave.

“The federation is now working on Oduor’s contract which he will sign soon. He is a good coach who will guide our team well in winning titles. The nature of the contract will be known soon”

Harambee Starlets are scheduled to play Albania in international friendly in Tirana on April 11 when Oduor will take charge of his first assignment.

The match against Albania, a team ranked 78 places above Kenya in FIFA Women’s ranking, will be the first engagement for Starlets in over a year after the FIFA ban which was lifted in November 2022.

Starlets are expected to report to camp on March 30 before leaving for Albania on April 8, 2023.

Tanzania’s Fountain Gate Princess Sporting director Alex Alumirah was appointed by the FKF Caretaker Committee on January 24, 2022 as the Starlets head coach for 12 months after the committee fired coach Okere who took over from David Ouma in April 2021 after the current Sofapaka head coach was also shown the door having been with the team for long.

Starlets who missed the 2022  African Women Cup Of Nations (AWCON) tournament which was staged in Morocco and they will be aiming to qualify for the 2024 edition which will be held in the same country (Morocco) for the second time in a row.
