Falcons on the KWPL peak after sinking Kayole

Eldoret Falcons leapt into the summit of the Kenyan Women Premier League (KWPL, thrashing Kayole Starlets 4-2 in a league match played on Sunday, at the Camp Toyoyo Grounds, Nairobi.

Harambee Starlets ace Janet Bundi and Ascar Meto grabbed a brace each in the exciting clash, to seal the three points took them to a total of 20 in the current campaign.

Thus, Thika Queens who beat the reigning champions Vihiga Queens 2-1 on Saturday had their tenure in at the top cut short by the red-hot Falcons.

Despite the win, Facons head coah Joshua Ariko has blamed center referee Meshack Omondi for controversial decisions against his side.

“I am not happy with referee’s decision to award a penalty to Kayole. It was an aerial ball contest and my defender Winnie Adhiambo headed it, only for him (referee) to rule he pushed a Kayole. That was not right at all,” he charged.

Ariko noted the win will be pivotal in his chase for the title, adding his team has settled well for the season.

“I am grateful for the win, my aim was to reclaim the top spot and we have achieved it. We will try as much as possible to maintain our current position and form, eyes on the title,” underscored Ariko.

In other results on Sunday, Spedag was held to a 2-2 draw by Mathare United women who earlier had whipped Mombasa Olympic 4-0 in the same venue on Saturday.

On Saturday 14th, April 2018 Gaspo beat Struggling Vihiga Leeds 3-1 at Mumias Sports Complex while Spedag humiliated Makolanders 3-1 at Mbaraki Sports club in a match dubbed, Coast derby.

After playing 9 matches, Eldoret Flacons are on the top of the table with 20 points two behind Thika United who are second, while Oserian ladies are third with 15 points. Wadadia and Mathare both have 14 points in position four and five respectively, but Wadadia have superior goal difference. Champions Vihiga Queens are in the sixth with 12 points.
