Fraser-Pryce vows fast times at Kip Keino Classic
Triple Olympic champion Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica
wants to lower her personal best in 100m at the Kip Keino Classic on Saturday.
Fraser-Pryce who boasts a personal best of 10.60 seconds
over 100m race hopes to run 10.50 seconds as she opens hers season over the
100m race on Saturday.
"I would love to run 10.50 or even 10.40 if possible. I
saw fast times in this meeting last year and I hope I can also run the 'Kenyan
time',” she said.
The 35-year-old regarded as one of the greatest sprinters of
all time arrived in the country on Wednesday night.
"I am very delighted to come to Kenya for the first
time. This is the home of athletics and I really wanted to open my 100m season
here in Kenya" said Fraser-Pryce.
The Jamaican will be up against Olympic 200m silver
medallist Christine Mboma of Namibia and Kenyan champion Maximilla Imali among
others.
"I think I am not concerned about the pack. It is all
about Shelly-Ann. I am going all out to try and start my 100m season in the
best way possible," she added.
While Kenya has been a force to reckon in middle and
long-distance races, Fraser-Pryce has backed Kenyans to shine in sprints in the
near future.
"I know you have very good athletes in middle distance
but you can also do well in sprints. It is never too late to start a new
tradition its only a matter of dedication and if one succeeds then they will
develop the culture of sprints," she said.
The nine-time world champion also revealed what she knows
about Kenya.
"I know about the Maasai tribe. I heard you have 42
tribes and I am looking forward to the Kenyan hospitality,"
