Free points for Kimathi as KU fails to observe time in league match

The race for promotion to the  men Hockey Premier League took a new twist on Saturday after Kimathi University were awarded three points and five goals in a walkover match when their opponents, Kenyatta University (KU) failed to keep time.

Kimathi University players who  had travelled from Nyeri County were all but set for the game but KU players  arrived 20 minutes late, leaving the Unionb with no choice but to award the match to Kimathi.

Courtesy of the awarded points Nyeri boys climbed to number four in the Super League table. KU remains the third from bottom with only nine points out of 10 matches.

Ndung’u Njogu, Kimathi University’s coach told Citizen Digital that they were disappointed by their opponents who couldn’t keep time for the match.

“We really wanted to play. We came all the way because we wanted and were ready to play. In the first leg, KU got the walkover against us and today here we are,” a disappointed Ndung’u lamented.

In the Women’s Super League, Nakuru Royals registered their first win of the season beating Mombasa Sports Club (MSC) 1-0 at City Park.

Benedine Kipyon acted a prank shot and got past the MSC goalie to score the important goal in the final minute of the first half.

Antony Agesa, Nakuru Royals head coach told Citizen Digital that the narrow win has boosted their morale for the next matches.

“I’m very happy for today’s win, we have had so many draws but today’s win will make my players push for another win tomorrow when we face Multimedia University,” Agesa said.

The first three teams in the Super League will earn promotion to the Premier League, with the last three being relegated
