Gallant Jasiri defend Tong IL Moo Do title in Mombasa
Kenya Tong IL Moo Do national team defended their title as they
emerged overall winners in the concluded Mombasa Open International Tong IL Moo
do championship, on Sunday night.
The Ibrahim Ingalwa coached side collected a total of 128 medals
in the two-day event, bagging 39 gold medals, 33 silver and 56 bronze.
Kenya’s closest challengers Philippines took home a total of 45
medal with DR Congo finishing third.
Jasiri, as they famously known, started the medal collection on
day one scooping eight; three gold, three silver and a bronze in forms
categories.
In the novices bracket A event, Kenya’s Samson Mambo won gold
after garnering 9.132 points with teammate Andrew Wanje taking silver after
collecting 8.866 points. Godwin Ogene Ifeanyi from Nigeria settled for bronze
with 8.733 points.
In the final day, Edwin Musungu added Kenya's gold tally
defeating Philiphines Reymark Bais in the bantam weight sparing 6-2.
Musungu who has won gold for all the nine editions of the international
tourney expressed his joy adding that nothing beats good preparations in
keeping fine form.
"The training I had done gave me the confidence, I could
feel I was ready for any opponent. The secret is just training hard,"
explained Musungu.
A total of 16 countries and more than 300 delegates participate
in the two days event held at the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa.
