Gede Boys outclass rivals to win Malindi 7s

The three-day event was hosted at Weru College and Lango Baya Secondary School. Gede Boys went unbeaten, brushing aside the competition with a combination of speed, structure, and clinical finishing.

Their campaign was highlighted by a crucial 32-14 win over Bishop Baldachinno, before sealing their dominance with a 14-5 victory against Malindi High School in the final round of matches.

Speaking exclusively to Citizen Digital, head coach Collins Magomere credited the team’s success to hard work, faith, and rising standards in school rugby:

“We thank God for the win. The games have been tough, and teams have improved; the quality of play is not like in past years.

We hope to continue this form to higher levels. We keep our hopes high.”

While Gede celebrated their rise, the spotlight dimmed for traditional giants Malindi High School, who, despite a strong start, fell short of securing county qualification. The perennial contenders will miss the county-level championships for the first time in recent memory, a blow to their ambitions this season.

With the sub-county crown secured, Gede Boys now shift focus to the Kilifi County games, aiming to extend their winning momentum and secure a spot at the regional showpiece.
