Go out and support Gor, officials plead

Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia on Saturday shifted their training to the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos ahead of tomorrow’s (Sunday) crunch Caf-Confederation Cup tie against South African side Supersport United.

K’Ogalo will be locking horns with the South African outfit nicknamed ‘Matsatsantsa’ in the first leg play-off where the aggregate winner will earn passage to the group stage where a staggering Sh 27 million awaits the winner.

Gor’s team manager Jolawi Obondo on Saturday told Citizen Digital that his boys are fired-up and it’s all systems go ahead of the crunch tie.

“We are all set. Everything is fine. We shifted to Machakos yesterday (Friday) evening and had a feel of the pitch,” a calm Obondo, a long-serving Gor’s team manager, said.

Supersport who landed in the country on Thursday are putting up in a top-class hotel located along Nairobi’s Mombasa Road and were penciled to have a late training session at the match venue on Saturday evening before they come face-to-face with the Kenyan glamour club.

Tomorrow’s clash come barely three weeks after K’Ogalo faced off with Esperance of Tunisia in a Caf- Champions League preliminary tie where they bowed out 0-1 on aggregate with the return leg in Tunis marred by controversy.

Separately, Gor CEO Aduda Omondi told Citizen Digital that the team is well prepared even in the face of a tough clash that is anticipated.

Omondi warned that “it won’t be an easy match” since Supersport is an experienced side which sailed all the way to the final in last year’s competition, adding that tactical measures must be observed in the home match.

“The boys are ready and we are looking forward to the match… they (players) have a chance to redeem themselves and the image of the country; this is the only match standing between us and getting into the group stages of the competition. We, therefore, must not underrate the visitors.”

The last time Supersport United played against a Kenyan side was way back in 2014 in the same competition where they eliminated AFC Leopards 4-2 on aggregate.

Aduda, at the same time, called on the club supporters to turn out in large numbers and cheer the team to glory.

Aduda’s call is aimed at having a carnival atmosphere to psyche up the boys in the high stake match.

Against Esperance at the same venue, Gor players had the crowd behind them but the number was not large enough to intimidate the opposition and the club chief executive wants the Green Army to make amends.

Match tickets will go on sale on match day with the VIP tickets retailing at Sh. 500 and Sh 300 for the terraces.
