FKF-Premier League second
seed Tusker have reinvigorated their quest to reclaim the topflight title
following Gor Mahia’s 1-0 slump to Bandari FC at Mbaraki in Mombasa last
weekend.
K’Ogalo’s lead was cut to seven points after the
brewers narrowly overcame AFC Leopards 1-0 at Kenyatta stadium in Machakos on
Sunday.
Now Tusker goal-poacher Eric Kapaito, who joined
the Brewers at the end of last season as a free agent from Zambian side Zanaco believes
that Matano led-charges can still catch up with Gor and leapfrog them to the
title.
Kapaito, who is eyeing the title with Tusker,
also focused on clinching this season’s golden boot.
“It’s our role as strikers to score goals for
the team to achieve its ambition, and at the moment I am the top scorer for Tusker
but third in the league top scorer’s chart but it's my deep desire to emerge
top at the end of the season,” he stated.
Despite trailing Gor Mahia striker Benson Omalla,
by three goals in the top scorers’ charts, Kapaito is confident he has what it
takes to give K’Ogalo a run for his money.
‘Currently, I am happy with my positive
contribution, which is helping the team and I am looking forward to improving
more’ stated the striker.
Omalla finished last season with 25 goals and is
still expected to bag in more goals in the remaining ten matches but Kapaito feels
he is up to the challenge of going toe-to-toe with him for the top gong.
The 28-year-old emerged as the top scorer with 16 goals
in his Premier League debut with Kariobangi Sharks in 2018 season and in the
2020/2021 season, still with Sharks, he won his second golden boot after improved his previous tally by 8 goals.
‘Individual awards do motivate players and
through this the team ends up doing well, the more I bag in goals for the team
the more I get closer to the prize [golden boot]’ he said.
Others in the top scorer's race are KCB FC
forward Francis Kahiro, Kakamega Homeboyz star Moses Shumah and Ulinzi’s
Boniface Muchiri who are tied with Kapaito on 6 goals.
