Gor almost unstoppable in title race, says Situma
It is
nearly an impossible task for opponents to stop Gor Mahia from
clinching their record-extending 21st league title this season, ex-Tusker FC
defender James Situma has said.
Gor
are enjoying a commanding seven-point gap at the helm of the 18-teams log on 50
points and with only 10 matches on the cards to wrap up the FKF-PL 2023/24
season.
And
Situma asserts that it is unthinkable that the Kenyan heavyweights will bottle
up the league title to their close challengers; Tusker (43) and Bandari FC
(43).
“Gor
Mahia for a long time when they pulled a huge gap on top of the log, they have
always gone all the way to win the league many times. And, as things stand now, I think when you figure
out the seven-point gap that they have pulled means that the opponents have a
mountain to climb.
"They
(Gor) will not want to slip further after losing 1-0 to third-placed Bandari FC
on March 9 because they know very well that rivals will get a double motivation
if they drop more points,” Situma noted.
However, the
ex-international who also turned up for AFC Leopards, Sofapaka, Mathare and
Kakamega Homeboyz has challenged close challengers to win all of their
remaining matches and give Gor a run for their money.
“The top teams must collect maximum points and
even register results against Gor should they want to stop their mission this season. We still have matches to play and it will now remain
to see who will be consistent enough in the title race,” Situma added.
For
close to two decades, Gor Mahia and Tusker have been the most dominant in the
league.
