Kenya Premier League (KPL) has awarded Gor Mahia three points on a 2-0 basis for the aborted match against AFC Leopards on Sunday.

The match was temporarily halted and later cancelled in the 63rd minutes after chaos broke out following the referee’s decision to award Gor Mahia a penalty.

The decision for the penalty was reached after AFC Leopards captain Jackson Saleh was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.

Irate fans were seen throwing objects into the field to protest against the penalty prompting the referee to call off the match.

In the statement signed by KPL CEO Jack Oguda, the league body ruled that AFC Leopards absconded the match hence the decision to award Gor Mahia the win.

“In accordance with Rule 3.4 (b) Abandoned Matches and 7.8 Responsibility of Clubs for Misconduct, the AFC Leopards supporters caused the abandonment and in accordance with Rule 3.8 Forfeited Matches, the match is awarded to Gor Mahia on 2-0 basis and any yellow or red cards awarded during the match are valid and will be counted.”

KPL also accused both Gor Mahia and AFC leopards of causing a delay in the beginning of the second half after causing at the end of first half, in contradiction with set rules.

The league body ordered the two clubs to send their submission to the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDC) by August 28, 2015 and appear before the committee on September 2nd 2015 at 2pm in Nairobi to respond to the charges.

Earlier on nineteen Gor Mahia fans were arraigned in court to face three counts of being armed in a public place, creating a disturbance and assault.

The suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on Sh50,000 bond, each with surety of a similar amount.
