According to the club chairman Ambrose Rachier, most players with contract expiring will be released together with players who have performed dismally in the ended campaign that saw Gor Mahia come out trophy less for the first time since 2013.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ray Oruo was also relieved of his duties hours after the entire technical bench was shown the door, including interim coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and security personnel, in what Rachier described as a “mutual separation.”
“We have players whose contracts have expired. Those we feel deserve renewals will be considered.”
“Those who haven’t met the performance threshold will also be released after analysis by professional coaches and general playing output.”
FIFA has previously come down hard on Gor Mahia for wrongful termination of players’ contracts but Rachier says they will trade carefully to avoid the world football governing body’s wrath.
“Everything will be done on mutual grounds to avoid FIFA-related disputes.”
He added that players seeking moves away from the club will be handled differently, with discussions tailored to suit both parties amicably.
The club has also moved to address concerns surrounding gate management following controversy in the Mashemeji Derby gate collection played in Homa Bay.
Gor Mahia collected a total of KSh 2,152,700 from gate collection despite the stadium being full to capacity a move that saw the Secretary General Sally Bolo come out to condemn the club fans who don’t want to pay tickets
“The incident forced us to make a drastic decision. We are now drawing a clear distinction between Gor Mahia stewards and security. Some individuals at the gate enjoy benefits, and that’s why it’s been difficult to replace them.”
“Going forward, any company contracted for ticketing at Gor matches will be required to provide its own security team at entry points. Additionally, those admitting fans will no longer be affiliated with the club.”
Rachier said that Gor Mahia will ensure that their stewards will have gone through proper training to improve the match day experience while improving on professionalism.
