Gor Mahia officially part ways with German coach Spier
Gor Mahia have officially parted ways with Andreas
Spier as the head coach after the German’s six-month term expired.
The latest developments have been confirmed by the
club’s management after they sent a letter to Andreas informing him of their
intention not to renew his terms or offer a long term contract.
“We refer to the agreement dated 22nd February 22
between Gor Mahia FC and yourself for the position of the head coach.
“Following the expiry of the agreement on 30th
June 22, the club Executive Committee has decided that it will not be extending
your contract,” read part of the notice letter signed by the club Secretary
General Sam Ocholla.
Spier, who was deputized by Machael Nam, took over
from the axed Briton Mark Harrison in February and guided the team to the end
of the season – where the local giants finished at fourth place in the just
ended Kenyan Premier League.
The club says they will be clearing with the coach
within the next few days: “By this notice, the club will clear any pending dues
owed to you within the next 14 days.”
Gor Mahia Chairman confirmed to Citizen Digital the club is shopping for
a new coach to replace Spier.
“We are looking for a new coach to replace Spiers
and hopefully we get one soon before the new season starts. The floor is open
for interested applicants to present their CVs for evolutions,” noted
Rachier.
The same sentiments were echoed by the club’s
secretary general Sam Ocholla who said they are in the market for a new coach
who can take the 19-time league champions to another level
“We’re not going to renew his contract and now we’re
shopping for a new coach. We want a coach who can the club to the next level.
We wish him well wherever he goes,” he told Citizen
Digital in an exclusive interview.
The German tactician who holds a UEFA Pro Licence
previously worked in Kenya and at some point had a role in Rwanda as Technical
Director at Football Associations.
