Gor Mahia outclass Posta, Stars hold Sharks as Tusker bag points

Defending Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia extended their lead at the top of the table to 10 points after beating Posta Rangers 4-0 in Machakos.

The league’s top scorer Benson Omalla was on the mark on first minute of the game as the two sides go into the breather with K’Ogalo leading 1-0.

Defender Sylvester Owino would then extended the lead in the second half with an easy tap-in to pile more miseries to the mail men.

Gor Mahia were not done yet as midfielder Austin Odhiambo pulled a brace to make it 4-0 and put the match way beyond Posta Rangers imagination – they didn’t clearly see such a scoreline coming considering their position on the log and their ambitions this season.

At Police Sacco stadium, Mark Makwata missed a second half penalty as Kariobangi Sharks were held to a 0-0 draw by a determined Nairobi city Stars.

The hosts will have themselves to blame for not taking their chances in the second half. Sharks nearly took a lead in the 17th minute with Julius Masaba but his low effort went wide.

Minutes later, a well worked cross by City Stars skipper Kapen Samuel went wide as Ali Mohammed failed to make contact.

It was not until the 71st minute when Vincent Owino handled the ball in box - Makwatta stepped up but his shot was parried away by Stars’ keeper Edwin Mukolwe.

Reflecting on the match, Sharks coach William Muluya chose to focus on the positives despite a drop in points. ''It was a tough match, I think a point is okay considering our opponents have had a good spell in the league,” Muluya noted.

His counterpart, Nicholas Muyoti, rued his boy’s inability to create chances but took pride in the clean sheet. Sharks gave us a good challenge.

“We did not create a lot of chances in the match. They had the most chances and possession but failed to score so we are happy with the clean sheet,”  Muyoti added.

In Muhoroni, Tusker pulled a crucial a 2-1 win against Muhoroni Youth to move up the log to second place on 40 points.
