League leaders Gor Mahia will be eager to refocus on their title charge when they take on Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday for a 3:30 pm kick-off against Ulinzi Stars.
K’Ogalo, who sit comfortably at the summit on 50 points, are
yet to taste a league defeat this calendar year.
However, Charles Akonnor’s men will be smarting from a
recent setback after being knocked out of the FKF Cup by lower-tier side BB
Bread last weekend.
That defeat will serve as a stark reminder that complacency
can be costly, and the record champions will be determined to return to winning
ways and maintain their solid grip on top spot.
Standing in their way are Ulinzi Stars side that is fighting
for survival. The soldiers are third from bottom in the standings and are in
the midst of a deep crisis, having failed to win any of their last five league
matches.
They will be desperate to use home advantage to pull off an
upset and claw their way out of the relegation mire.
AFC Leopards eye vital win in title pursuit
In what promises to be a mouth-watering clash on Saturday,
second-placed AFC Leopards will host Mathare United at Nyayo Stadium, also at
3:30pm.
Ingwe are currently trailing their fierce rivals Gor Mahia
by seven points, but crucially, they have a game in hand. A win here is
essential to keep the pressure on the leaders and maintain their push for the
title.
Mathare United, placed 12th on the standings will
be eager to play spoilsport and improve their own mid-table standing.
Elsewhere, on Sunday, third-placed Shabana will have their
sights set on consolidating their position on the podium.
The Kisii-based team will host Kariobangi Sharks at the
Gusii Stadium from 2:00 pm. With the top two pulling away, Shabana will be keen
to maintain their momentum and keep the chasing pack at bay.
The weekend’s action begins earlier on Saturday at the
Kasarani Annex, where Sofapaka will take on Nairobi United from 1:00 pm.
Sofapaka will be looking to navigate past a Nairobi United
side that has been competitive this season.
At the main Kasarani Stadium, KCB will lock horns with
Murang’a Seal from 3:00 pm. Both sides will be aiming to climb up the standings
in what promises to be a tightly contested battle.
With crucial points at stake at both ends of the table, this
weekend's fixtures are set to provide plenty of drama for Kenyan football fans.
