Gor sip Tusker to go 10 points clear, Bandari defy Sharks attack to share the spoils
Surging Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia went 10 points clear of second-placed Nairobi City Stars after picking a pivotal 1-0 win against fellow giants Tusker FC.
Austin
Odhiambo was the hero for Gor in the afternoon scoring the all-important goal to
seal the three points for K'Ogalo who are looking to defend their title.
At the
Mbaraki Sports Club, host team Bandari and Kariobangi Sharks settled for a 2-2
draw, Shabana fell 0-1 to Ulinzi Stars at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay
while KCB and Muhoroni Youth ended in a barren draw.
At Mbaraki,
Bandari got their goals through Umar Kasumba and Nahimana Shassiri while Sharks
got theirs through Patrick Ngunyi and Isaac Wasambo.
Umar
Kasumba missed a glorious chance in the fourth minute of the game to give
Bandari what should have been an opener as his 20-yard shot went wide.
A minute
later, Kariobangi Sharks winger Patrick Ngunyi tapped into an empty net after a
power play in the right side by Geoffrey Onyango and Keith Imbali to give the
visitors the lead.
The hosts
failed to calm the ever mounting pressure from home fans, Umar Kasumba and
Derrick Nsibambi twin strike force seemingly neutralized by the Sharks defence.
Just before
the break, Kasumba equalised for Bandari after connecting Captain Andrew Juma
header pass after a curled corner kick from William Wadri.
The teams
went to halftime square, at 1 - 1.
Upon
resumption, the Dockers made changes, introducing their new man Mohammed Barisa
and Shassiri Nahimana.
In the 50th
minute, Keith Imbali almost restored Sharks lead after missing a one on one
chance with Bandari goalie Joseph Ochuka but the home side upped the pressure
paying off in the 75th minute after Nahimana shassiri collected a loose ball in
the 18-yard-box and fired a low shot beating sharks goalkeeper Sepstianos
Wekesa.
Eight
minutes to the end of the match Isaac Wasambo pegged the scores after a master
play by Captain Biron Otieno.
Home fans
were left yawning for more action after the center referee ended the game with
Bandari’s new striker Francis Kahiro and Winger Mohammed Barisa camping at Sharks
18-yard box for a winner.
Bandari 2-2
Kariobangi Sharks
Shabana 0-1
Ulinzi Stars
KCB FC 0-0
Muhoroni Youth
Gor Mahia 1-0 Tusker
