Gor under no pressure to maintain unbeaten run, says Nyaoro
Gor Mahia team manager Victor Nyaoro says they are under no
pressure to finish the league unbeaten.
According to Nyaoro, despite chasing a record 21st
topflight title, K’Ogallo won’t be rattled in the event they lose some of their
matches.
‘’There is no pressure at all. All teams come to play and
win and losing is part of the game. All we are fighting for is the 21st title,’’
he said.
The defending champions are yet to taste defeat this season currently
top league standings with 28 points after 14 rounds.
Last weekend, Gor ducked defeat after coming from behind to
force a 2-2 draw against struggling Nzoia Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay.
Mohammed Barisa had struck twice for the visitors before Patrick
Kaddu and Benson Omalla scored a goal each to restore parity.
Nyaoro has however acknowledged the tough competition in the top
flight league especially the challenge of facing the teams in the bottom half
of the table.
‘’Playing against any relegation-threatened team is very
dangerous. Someone fighting for survival is more lethal than one in a comfort
zone.’’
Shabana FC and Nzoia who sit 16th and 17th respectively
have this season given the champions a run for their money with Gor winning 1-0
against Shabana and settling for a draw with Nzoia.
In the meantime,
Nyaoro has dismissed reports that the duo of Benson Omalla and Rooney Onyango
are due for trials in Europe after a section of the media misquoted Harambee
Stars head coach Engin Firat as saying he had recommended Rooney and Omalla to
a club in Europe for trials.
“That is just the
making of social media. The two players are not aware of any offer abroad and
neither is the club. Should any offer arise, we shall release them and make it
public,’’ he added.
Nyaoro however says
they will open the door for the players if an opportunity for them to grow their
talents arrives.
Gor will battle
Talanta FC on Saturday before hosting the Bandari FC on December 21.
The Johnathan
Mckinstry-coached side has found the back of the net 18 times while conceding
seven times this term and currently occupy top-spot with 28 points.
They are closely
followed by Kakamega Homeboyz in the second position with 27 points while former
league leaders Posta Rangers have slipped to third position with 26 points from
14 outings.
