Gor's coach McKinstry frustrated after FKF Cup exit at the hands of little-known Denmark
Gor Mahia head coach Jonathan McKinstry
is a frustrated man after suffering a painful FKF Cup round of 32 exit at the hands
of Coastal side Denmak FC.
Gor’s tie against Denmark ended in a
barren draw in regulation time before K’Ogalo crushed out 5-4 on penalties.
McKinstry says it is so frustrating that despite
proper preparations, they were unable to capitalize on their dominance.
‘’It is so frustrating that despite
preparing well for the match we ended up exiting the tournament. We prepared
for a whole two weeks and we intended to go all the way to the finals, but an
unfortunate thing happened and it is part of the game,’’ said MCKinstry.
According to the Irish football
manager, K’Ogalo dominated the game but could not convert their dominance to a
win. He says, however, the coastal side was also prepared and determined to
edge Gor noting they displayed a high standard of football.
‘’Whenever a team is preparing to meet Gor,
their happiness will always be to beat us. The coastal side played very well as
well and got the result. I don’t blame my boys, though, since this is football
and in a game of football, a team should always expect three different kinds of
results.’’
Third ranked shot stopper Caleb Omondi,
20, was preferred between the sticks and the coach says he was satisfied with
his game. He however heaped praise on the opponent’s youthful goalkeeper whom
he said was super and helped the opponents advance to the next stage following his
superb and acrobatic saves.
‘’I told the Denmak FC coach after the
match that his youthful goalkeeper will go places. He was consistent in his
play, got injured twice and was determined to get back to play and ended up
denying us a place in the last 16,’’ added MC’Kinstry.
The experienced tactician also rested
Kenyan internationals in the team consisting of Benson Omalla, Rooney Onyango
and Alpha Onyango in anticipation of a league match against Posta Rangers next
weekend, but his tactic failed to work in his favour.
We have a tough game against second-placed
Posta Rangers over the weekend; Benson, Rooney and Alpha are in my plans for
the big match. That is why I rested them here,’’ explained the coach.
MC’Kinstry is however confident of
lifting the season’s league trophy saying a single slip cannot be used to gauge
their league campaign. He says the cup
exit is in his past and he is now focused on the remaining league matches.
Gor Mahia have lost just one game in the league, at the hands of fourth-placed Police FC on February 3. They sit at the helm of the
log with 47 points after 22 outings, eight points ahead of second-placed Posta
Rangers, who is also their next opponent.
