Gritty Telkom edge Strathmore to stay perfect
Defending Champions Telkom Kenya made it two wins in two as they edged their compatriots Strathmore University Scorpions in the ongoing African Cup for Club Championships in the Theodosiah Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra, Ghana.
Telkom who are seeking a record 10th continental crown had to did deep to earn all three points with Audrey Omaido’s 52nd minute strike – her second in the competition – proving the difference.
The Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) champions had opened their campaign with a 5-0 demolition of Nigerians Yobe Desert.
In contrast, Strathmore have started the tournament on a low having lost 4-0 to hosts Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) women in Saturday’s opener.
The two Kenyan represantives will now brace themselves for their third matches on Monday with Telkom set to face KADA Queens of Nigeria as the Students take on hosts Police Club.
Meanwhile, GRA women continued their fine form edging out Police Club 1-0 in the Ghanaian derby.
In the men fixtures due to be played, Police Machine of Nigeria takes on SSNIT ( Trustees) of Ghana as Elsharkia of Egypt settling it out with Nigeria’s Niger Flickers.
Later on defending Champions, Eastern Company Club of Egypt will be up against hosts GRA men as they look for second successive win.
