Harambee Starlets forward Jentrix Shikangwa has officially parted ways with Simba Queens, marking the end of a remarkable chapter in Tanzanian women's football. The announcement came as part of what appears to be a sweeping squad overhaul by the Tanzanian Women's Premier League giants.
Shikangwa joined
Simba Queens in January 2024 after a brief six-month contract with the Asian
side, Beijing Professional, in China, leaving behind an impressive legacy. In
the 2024-25 season, she was the club's top scorer, netting 24 goals and helping
Simba Queens finish as league runners-up.
Her contribution
to Tanzanian football has been nothing short of stellar. In the 2022-23 season,
Shikangwa clinched the Tanzanian Women’s Premier League Golden Boot, scoring 17
goals and asserting her dominance as one of East Africa’s top strikers.
Internationally,
Shikangwa remains a household name for the Harambee Starlets since she did not
feature for the Starlets in this year's CECAFA Women's Cup which Kenya fell to
hosts Tanzania in the final. She was also not part of the Starlets squad that played
in the 2025 WAFCON qualifiers.
Her domestic
success in Kenya is also exemplary, having 3-peated the FKF Women’s Premier
League title three times (2017, 2018, and 2019) with Vihiga Queens.
Simba Queens'
decision to release Shikangwa comes alongside farewells to other key 11
players, signaling a potential major squad shake-up ahead of the next season.
While no official explanation has been given, the move hints at a possible
strategic rebuild as Simba Queens look to refresh their squad and possibly
inject new talent.
