Tanzania have won their third CECAFA Women’s title after defeating the Kenya’s Harambee Starlets 1-0 in at Azam Complex Stadium in Tanzania.
The first half lacked any real attacking intent and ended
0-0, despite the hosts controlling much of the ball.
Starlets who were on an impressive run of form to secure a
place in the final were ultimately sent packing after an own goal from Enez
Mango shortly after the restart in the 49th minute of the game.
Both teams had remained unbeaten after collecting nine
points from three games. Tanzania needed a draw to win the trophy while Kenya
needed nothing short of a win to be crowned champions.
Bakari Shime, the Twiga Star head coach had said that facing
kenya would be good ground to test his players on some key aspects they had
been working on.
Harambee Starlets coach Beldine Odemba had also expressed
optimism about her team’s readiness for the game.
Eventually things failed to ignite for the starlets after
the goal which ultimately led them to bow out of the competition.
