Harlequins appoint Plasman as new head coach

Kenya Harlequins have appointed Belgian Antoine Plasman as the new head coach taking over from Dominique Habimana.

Plasman was the head coach for U18 and U20 Belgium national teams and according to Quins Honorary secretary Stanley Omino he has faith that he will deliver for the team.

“We recruited him because he applied for the position and we were excited to give him the position and he is ready and willing to take the position and I have faith in him and his abilities and I hope he’ll deliver a good season for us,” said Omino.

The Belgian tactician is a World Rugby Level Two certification and he served as head coach for Boitsfort Rugby Club in Brussels from 2017 to 2020.

Omino added that the coach is already in the country and has already met some players waiting for the new season of Kenya Cup to kickoff

“He is in the country and before his announcement he had met a few players here and there but all the players are aware of him and he has been in the gym with some players together with the strength and conditioning coach,” he added.

Rugby will however remain suspended according to the ministry of Sports since its contact sports are deemed high risk of spreading the virus.

“Currently we’re not training because rugby has been banned but when we resume training we’ll let our players know when to be able to train but currently since we’re allowed to go to the gym the players are allowed to go in small numbers under the guidance of the strength and conditioning coach,” explained Omino.

Antoine was appointed among two other foreigners and three local coaches.

He becomes the third coach in a season for the 2008 Kenya Cup winners after the former Kenya Simbas forward coach Dominique Habimana and Carlos Cardovillis.
