Homeboyz, Bandari match marred by chaos late penalty
The FKF Premier League clash pitting Kakamega Homeboyz and
Bandari FC ended in chaotic fashion after a mass brawl broke out when the final
whistle went.
The visiting Bandari players hassled the referee incensed by
his decision to award the home side a late penalty and were themselves subject
of retaliatory attacks from the Homeboyz fans.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw with goals from Benjamin Mosha
and Brian Eshihanda cancelling out. What would have been a match-winning
penalty was saved by goalkeeper Michael Wanyika.
In the melee at the end, Bandari goalkeepers’ trainer
William Obungu pushed down a county security officer who was trying to calm down
the situation.
NTV journalist Zacheus Mwasame was also caught in the firing
line as the home fans rained blows on him when he tried to help a Bandari fan.
Bandari players were forced to jump over the fence for
safety to evade the angry fans who were at the main entrance.
Bandari team manager Albert Ogari has condemned the incident
while blaming the referee for alleged poor officiating, calling upon FKF to
take stern action on those involved in the fracas.
“We played very well, but the match officials were biased
and I have never witnessed such violence in a premier league match, we want FKF
to take action,” he said.
Bandari took the lead in the sixth minute through Mosha,
before Homeboyz equalized in the 76th minute through Eshihanda.
