Homeboyz boss Shimanyula hails Sh20 million shirt sponsorship deal

Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula has expressed his delight at the Sh 20million-a-year shirt sponsorship deal the team signed on Tuesday with a gaming firm – Mozzart Bet.

The shirt deal is the first for the club as it celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Shimanyula expressed his delight at the deal noting that it will inject stability into the club.

“This (shirt sponsorship deal) will improve terms for our players and the technical bench, the season has started and we want to compete for the title,” he said.

Head coach Nicholas Muyoti believes they can at least challenge for the league title and even get a shot to feature in continental showpiece.

“I believe this is our season, we have a strong squad full of experience, we want to challenge for the title and even feature in continental showpiece,” the coach told Citizen Digital.

Team captain David Juma promised the new partners good representation in the ongoing campaign.

“As players, this season we will make sure that we win the trophy and make our sponsors happy,” Juma said.

The Kakamega based side has had a poor season start to the campaign picking just four points from four games – against Vihiga United, Posta Rangers, KCB and Ulinzi Stars.

AFC Leopards’ chairman Dan Shikanda, who was in attendance, surprisingly stated his wish to see the Kakamega side win the Premier League title.

“I want to see Kakamega Homeboyz also win the title because AFC Leopards are going continental, we want to win Caf matches and become the kings of Africa,” he said.

Ingwe and Kakamega Homeboyz have turned out to be fierce rivals in recent history especially given that both enjoy massive support in the Western region.

Peter Thiongo’s move from Kakamega Homeboyz to AFC Leopards heightened the rivalry and it remains to be seen how Homeboyz will perform with his exit and the extra cash incentive.
