Homeboyz out to add more pain on limping Gor

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Nicholas Muyoti has vowed to pile more pressure on defending champions Gor Mahia when they lock horns on Wednesday at Bukhungu stadium.

Gor are limping in the wake of a shock 2-1 defeat to lightweight Nzoia Sugar at the Mumias Sports Complex.

This defeat was preceded by the exit from the Caf Confederations Cup at the hands of Napsa Stars of Zambia.

As if that is not enough, striker Nicholas Kipkirui has ditched the club midway through the campaign making an already bad situation worse.

And Muyoti, whose side is slowly regaining their footing after an equally poor start to the league wants Gor’s situation to degenerate further by handing them another defeat at the Bukhungu Stadium.

“I am hopeful that in the game against Gor Mahia we will put in double effort and possibly look for early goals,” the former Leopards team manager said.

Muyoti has noted that they have been forced to play Kenya’s most successful clubs back-to-back but was quick to submit that it is not something to cause an alarm. At the weekend they lost 2-1 to AFC Leopards at the same venue.

“Matches are coming thick and quick and you can see that we have been lined-up to play giant teams back-to-back but that should not worry us.

We want to ensure that we avoid what happened against AFC (Leopards) by stopping them (Gor Mahia) from scoring. We should also not make mistakes that will give them fouls near our goal,” explained Muyoti.

K’Ogalo are placed 11th on 16 points, one behind Nzoia Sugar who moved up to tenth

On his part, Homeboyz captain Allan Wanga has warned Gor to prepare for a tough duel terming the match a ‘must win’.

“I have suffered a minor injury but I am hopeful I will be okay against Gor Mahia and I hope I will keep scoring to continue lifting Homeboyz to climb up the log,” the former Leopards striker said after scoring the consolation goal for his team.

The Muyoti coached side sit 13th on the 18-team standings with 15 points 10 behind fourth placed Leopards.
