Kakamega Homeboyz Team Manager Boniface Imbenzi now feels increasing competition in the Kenyan premier League has contributed to his side’s downward trajectory.

Homeboyz, who in the past two seasons have been pushing the traditional contenders to the wire, are currently eighth in the league with 34points, a whopping 16 behind leaders Gor Mahia.

"At this stage all the teams are fighting for points; some want to win the league while others are battling to avoid relegation. The competition is so stiff and you can't underrate anyone.

Apart from Gor Mahia who have opened a big gap between them and the rest of the teams (in the title race), I think the rest of the teams are almost at the same level," Imbenzi stated.

Homeboyz who at one point climbed to second behind leaders Gor Mahia, have seen their title race slowed down after a run of poor results.

According to Imbenzi, Homeboyz's players must exhibit 100% concentration in their remaining matches this season to avoid conceding goals in stoppage time which has been a serious undoing to them.

"For sure our results have been disappointing and I have realized that the boys should learn how to avoid conceding goals in stoppage time to allow opponents to win matches or force a draw which denies us maximum points.  Like the goal we conceded against FC Talanta over the weekend came in the extra time," said Imbenzi.

This year alone, Homeboyz have won once in seven league matches, a 2-1 win against KCB on February 11.

The Patrick Odhiambo-led team has registered four draws and two losses this year, results that have orchestrated their drop.

Before that, they had brushed aside the likes of Bidco United, Ulinzi Stars, Sofapaka and Muhoroni Youth, a run that saw them climb to second in December.

They next host Ulinzi Stars at Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday as they aim to return to winning ways in the league  for the first time since February 11.
