Double Olympic 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon continued her red-hot form with another dominant display to triumph in the women's 5000m at the World Championships trials in Nyayo Stadium.

Kipyegon was competing for the first time after breaking both the 1500m and 5000m world records in a span of a week.

The two-time world champion clocked 14 minutes, 53.90 seconds to claim victory in the 12 and half-lap race ahead of national champion Lilian Kasait who placed second in 14:56.50

World 10,000m bronze medallist Margaret Chelimo came home third in 15:07.49 to seal the final slot for the World Championships.

Kipyegon, who will be eyeing her third world title in 1500m, has confirmed she will do both events in Budapest.

"I am happy I have won today's race having competed over 5000m. My main target is to defend my 1500m title in Budapest but also try the 5000m race as I am looking to scale up. Everything comes through hard work and I believe I will do well in Budapest," Kipyegon said.
