Injera brace guides Mwamba into playoff semis
Kenya international Collins Injera scored a brace to help Mwamba RFC seal a semi final ticket in the Kenya Cup after narrowly beating Top Fry Nakuru 18-17 at the Nakuru Athletic Club on Saturday.
Kelvin Wambu’s charges scored two tries converting one plus two penalties against Mitch Ocholla’s coached side who scored three tries converting one.
Mwamba came from 12-8 down at half time to book their semi final ticket against Kabras Sugar to be played at the ASK ground Kakamega on Saturday 11 May 2019.
Mwamba started at high scorina a penalty to lead 3-0 but Nakuru replied as Kelvin Ominyo went over the whitewash Geofrey Oninde converting to make it 7-3 for Nakuru after he had earlier lost a penalty.
Mwamba scored their first try through Kenya’s top try scorer in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Collins Injera but the conversion went wide giving his team a 8-7 lead.
Emanuel Mboya landed Nakuru’s second try Ominde missing the twos to lead 12-8 at half time.
Nakuru extended their lead to 17-8 off a grabber kick by Ominde but the conversion was short.
Quick tap and off went to Injera landing his second try converting it to make it 17-15.
The visitors scored a penalty to make it 18-17 at full time.
Elsewhere Kenya Harlequins got the Ngong road derby bragging rights after they defeated Impala Saracens 29-24 and they will face KCB RFC in the semi final to be played at the Ruaraka Grounds, Nairobi.
