Strathmore missed the chance to join National Cereals and
Produce Board (NCPB) on top of the national handball league standings after
suffering a shock 31-27 shock defeat at the hands of Inspired Boys.
Strathmore led 12-10 at the break after
an impressive opening half at Nyayo Stadium but could not keep up the momentum
after the restart Inspired Boys turned the tables to shock their fancied
opponents sparked by Brian Barasa.
It was Strathmore's first loss of the season and first title
setback as rivals Black Mamba, NCPB and Ulinzi all registered their wins to
maintain their perfect start of the season.
Victory got Inspired off the mark having had no fixtures
during the previous six rounds.
Strathmore's headcoach Peter Mwathi blamed his boys for
unnecessary mistakes which cost them the game.
"We gave away the balls easily which the opponent used
them to hurt us. Our second goalkeeper Lukas Akatinda also didn't impress today
following an injury to our important player and goalkeeper Edgar Wanjala to
injury.
"My boys should know what they are supposed to do to
start chasing the league leaders NCPB. We are yet to meet our rivals and we
must wake up to stand a chance of winning the title," said Mwathi.
At the same venue NCPB maintained a perfect start of their
season after thrashing Inspired Boys 41-19 to go on top of the log with 14 points.

them a 35-30 beating in other fixtures played on Sunday at Nyayo National
Stadium.
In women catagory NCPB sunk Young City 57-04 to close gap on
