Isuzu East
Africa has launched a new model of D-Max pick up in honour of world marathon
record holder Eliud Kipchoge.
In an event
held Tuesday morning at the Isuzu East Africa headquarters in Nairobi, the
company unveiled a special limited edition of D-Max known as Eliud Kipchoge
1:59 in line with Kipchoge’s sub two-hour marathon of 1:59:40 he ran at the
INEOS challenge in 2019.
Isuzu East
Africa Managing Director Rita Kavashe said the new model is to celebrate the
achievements of Kipchoge who recently lowered his world record by 30 seconds.
“We are celebrating
him (Kipchoge) and therefore we are going to co create an Eliud Kipchoge D-max
pick up 1:59 and the first 001 will be Eliud’s vehicle. That vehicle is to
continue conversation that as country we need to appreciate the role of sports
in terms of economic development, health and wellness and motivation of young
people to take up sports,” Kavashe said.
Kipchoge
hailed Isuzu for their long-term partnership also disclosing that he is still
yearning for more success in his marathon career.
“I am really
happy and excited since it has been a long partnership with Isuzu and for them
to unveil this new model is an inspiration to the next generation and for corporate
to recognize and award them.
“Breaking
the world record is actually pushing the barriers and is one way of building my
career,” said Kipchoge.
