Juma the hero as Gor silence loud Bandari to lift KPL Super Cup
Lawrence Juma was the hero at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday afternoon scoring the all-important goal as Gor Mahia edged Bandari 1-0 to lift the 2019/20 Kenyan Premier League Super Cup.
Despite lifting the curtain raiser trophy, Gor players had to contend with the trophy and medals but no cash token owing to the tough financial crunch ravaging through Kenyan sports.
In the 70th minute, Gor captain Kenneth Muguna delivered a fine cross which went direct to Nicholas Kipkirui who set Lawrence Juma to unleash a thunder bolt shot past Bandari Keeper Michael Wanyika to help the league champions claim the honours.
The match started in a slow tone as the first half did not witness any shots on target and only one corner in favour of Bandari.
Bernard Mwalala introduced sensational winger Abdallah Hassan and Benjamin Mosha in place of David King’atua and Shaban Kenga but their speed did not bear any fruits.
On the other side Gor coach Steven Pollack took off Ghanaian Francis Afiriye and Samuel Onyango, and in their places came Nicholas Kipkirui and new signing Kennedy Agogo Otieno.
Clifton Miheso who is also a new acquisition at Gor Mahia tried some runs in the left side of the pitch but his crosses did not meet its targets.
K’Ogalo lost last year’s final in the hands of Kariobangi Sharks by the same margin.
The two teams will now direct their energy to continental games coming next weekend with Bandari travelling to Sudan.
