Junior Malkia Strikers end blip with win over Uganda in Yaoundé, Egypt lie in wait

After Cameroon slowed down the Junior Malkia Strikers’ charge with a 3-1 defeat on Tuesday, the Jackline Barasa-coached side responded emphatically, sweeping Uganda in sets of 25-14, 25-16, 25-15 in their third match of the round-robin tournament.

‎The victory marked Kenya’s second win in the competition following their dominant opening day 3-0 sets triumph over Senegal.

‎‎Key to the win was the impressive form of fast-rising hitter Malyne Terry Tata, who was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match.

‎Terry also stood out in the clash against Cameroon, despite the team falling short in a match that exposed Kenya’s communication issues and setting errors, allowing the tactically superior hosts to claim the win 3-1 (25-18, 18-25, 19-25, 25-27).

‎‎Against Uganda, however, Kenya looked more composed and coordinated. They controlled the tempo from start to finish, dominating at the net and showing better service reception and transition play — all key areas that faltered against Cameroon.

‎‎With the tournament being played in a round-robin format, every match carries significant weight in determining the semifinalists.

Kenya’s next fixture against Egypt Thursday from 4PM is expected to be crucial, especially with the North African side also in strong form following a 3-0 thrashing of Burundi (25-6, 25-13, 25-11).

‎‎Kenya will be hoping that the momentum from the Uganda win will help them overcome Egypt and increase their chances of advancing to the final four.

‎‎In other Day Three results, hosts Cameroon maintained their unbeaten run with a 3-0 victory over Senegal, while Egypt easily swept aside Burundi.

‎‎Kenya’s remaining fixtures, especially the Egypt match, could define their championship fate as they seek to return home with a podium finish.
