Kenya’s Under-17 football team, the Junior Stars, moved a
step closer to the semifinals of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations CECAFA
qualifiers with a commanding 2-0 win over South Sudan at the Abebe Bikila
Stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Derrick Wanyonyi opened the scoring in the 12th minute,
capitalizing on a shaky South Sudanese defence.
Despite their efforts, the visitors failed to find the back
of the net, and the first half ended with Kenya leading by a solitary goal.
The second half saw both teams pushing for dominance, but it
was Trevor Nassasiro who sealed the win with a late strike in the 89th minute,
giving Kenya a comfortable 2-0 victory.
This marks the Junior Stars’ second win in Group A,
following a 2-1 comeback victory over Rwanda.
With the result, Kenya sit atop the group with 12 points, level with Ethiopia, ahead of their final group match on November 27, 2025, with a semifinal spot up for grabs.
