Kabras see off KCB to defend Kenya Cup crown
Kabras Sugar
are champions of Kenya Cup once again after defeating bitter rivals KCB RFC 19-9
in an epic final staged at the Kakamega Showground on Saturday.
Victory
capped an extra-ordinary season for Kabras who thus completed an invincible campaign
to hold on to their crown as the country’s finest rugby team.
Both teams employed
a defensive approach in the first half, with the hosts Kabras managing to
squeeze in a penalty going into the break with three points.
In the
second period, Kabras scored three penalties through Ntabeni Dukisa and one penalty
try to take their tally to 19, while KCB managed to score only three penalties
through Darwin Mukidza.
This was the
sixth time that this two teams have met in the kenya cup finals.
KCB coach
Curtis Olago said that the match was balance only that their opponents
capitalized on their mistake to beat them.
“We played
well, both teams were good defensively, but our opponents took their chances
well, we will fight another day,” he said.
However
Kabras coach Carlos Katywa was full of praise for his boys saying they were
mentally prepared for the match and they played according to plan.
