Kagere double fires Gor to Super Cup semis

Meddie Kagere grabbed a second half brace as Kenyan Premier League (KPL) side Gor Mahia FC defeated Jang’ombe Boys of Zanzibar 2-0 on Tuesday to sail to Super Cup semi-finals.

The tie had stood at 0-0 at the break yet the opening half at the Uhuru Stadium, Dar es Salam-Tanzania had been far more exciting than that scoreline would suggest as both clubs sought the early breakthrough.

Ugandan-born Rwandese striker Kagere struck in the 66th minute, connecting Kenneth Muguna’s sumptuous cross from the left channel into the back of the net.

An energized Gor enhanced their dominance of the proceedings, and earned a penalty after Shomar Said was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box with few minutes left on the clock.

Kagere stepped up to covert the spot kick and with the job done, he made way for youngster Amos Nondi.

The KPL giants join their local arch-rivals AFC Leopards and Tanzania’s Yanga in the semis.

Leopards fell newly promoted Tanzanian Premier League (TPL) side Singida FC in Monday’s qaurter-finals with Kenyan champions sent packing early by Yanga.
