Kenyan international Francis Kahata says Police FC have gained
enough experience in their Premier League debut season, to be able to fight for
the title next season.
Kahata cited unity in the team as key strength, and with some
key players undertaking police training hence absent in part of the campaign
last season, he is hopeful the team will be much stronger once they rejoin.
“The
season was tough, we had mixed results. Some players left for training, others
got injured but in all we fought our way to the top 10 which is a good thing
for a team that was making its debut in the Premier League. We hope we will
build on the experience gained to fight for titles next season,” said Kahata.
The veteran midfielder joined Police midseason and was
instrumental in their top 10 finish, despite suffering a hamstring injury which
kept him out of action for over a month.
“Having
joined the team mid-season it took me time to understand my teammates though some
of them I had played with at Gor Mahia. The hamstring injury also slowed me
down but after recovering I gave my best to the team. I can only promise more
next season,” added Kahata.
The creative midfielder believes with a good preseason, Police
will be strong enough to compete for the title.
“We need a proper full preseason for us to be
competitive next season. I know the management is keen on giving us the best
and we are hoping to fight for the pride of this team.
“I
believe we have what it takes to win the title,” Kahata told Citizen Digital.
